Kent Saheli Group was founded in 1991 to support and empower women, particularly those facing isolation and language barriers.
Led by Daya Wanti Kans, a community leader and educator, the group began as a safe space for women to build confidence, learn new skills, and connect with others.
Over the years, it has grown into a UK-reaching charity, helping women and girls become more independent, confident, and active within their communities.
We support women and communities by:
Sharing important information on health, education, environment, and social issues
Creating safe spaces for learning, discussion, and support
Encouraging creative expression and authentic storytelling
Organising events, outings, and community activities
Encouraging participation, confidence, and mutual understanding
Our work helps bring people together, reduce isolation, and strengthen community connections.
We promote physical and mental wellbeing through inclusive activities for women of all ages, including:
Keep fit, yoga, and wellbeing sessions
Cultural dance such as Bhangra and Bollywood
Social activities that encourage connection and confidence
We also run befriending initiatives and create welcoming spaces where women can build friendships and feel supported in their everyday lives.
We celebrate culture and creativity by giving women a platform to express themselves and share their stories.
Our work includes:
Supporting artistic expression through dance, writing, and performance
Publishing books through our Saheli Writers group
Promoting local and international talent
Hosting cultural events like the Teeyan Festival
Through these initiatives, we amplify underrepresented voices, preserve cultural heritage, and inspire future generations.
